Shopify partnered with Truemed so shoppers can now pay with HSA/FSA funds right inside Shop Pay. Early access is open: join the waitlist to offer it in your store. Truemed is the only HSA/FSA payment option available in Shop Pay.

Today, a shopper who wants to use HSA/FSA funds on Shopify has to check out as a guest, forcing shoppers to take extra steps at checkout if they are already signed in. After Shop Pay’s partnership with Truemed, HSA/FSA becomes a new payment option in a familiar, native checkout experience. Shop Pay also saves the shopper’s HSA/FSA card for their next order, and if a shopper saved an HSA/FSA card in Shop Pay at another store, they can use it at yours too.

For shoppers, it works like this:

1. At checkout, the shopper can stay logged in to Shop Pay.
2. The shopper chooses to pay with HSA/FSA funds in Shop Pay.
3. The shopper adds an HSA/FSA card, or uses one already saved in Shop Pay.
4. The shopper answers the Truemed health survey in a Shop Pay-themed modal without leaving checkout.
5. The order shows as under review while Truemed confirms that it qualifies. When Truemed approves the order, Shopify lets the shopper know. If the shopper does not qualify, the order does not go through and the shopper pays nothing.

As a merchant, you have nothing to build and no separate third-party payment app to install. When your store gets access, simply turn on HSA/FSA in your Shopify payment settings, accept the agreement, and Truemed will begin syncing your catalog and reviewing it for HSA/FSA eligibility within three business days. HSA/FSA orders show up in Shopify right next to your other orders, and Truemed handles eligibility, documentation, and compliance.

The integration also provides new PDP and checkout widgets by default. You can also keep the Truemed Extensions App installed to run additional HSA/FSA badging and collections throughout your store.
